Can someone explain to the blonde New Hampshirite about why people think that singer is funny? Cause I don't get it.

We must first establish that Rick Astley is one of the worst parts of 90s popular music. Also, we must agree that his vocal pitch does not match his appearance whatsoever. We can then use those conclusions to humiliate other people by making people inadvertently listen to the song, which becomes an awkward situation for the victim.

It becomes funny when the victim of the Rick roll realizes that he has been duped into listening to a crappy song. There is a subtlety to the Rick roll. If the victim sees it coming, there is no humiliation and thus no humor.

Consider the following equation, a condensed version of the above text:

Bad song + subterfuge + humiliation = Rick roll

The joke becomes funnier when more people are around, making the victim even more embarrassed. The psychological principle that makes the executors of the Rick roll laugh is known as "schadenfreude". Philosopher and sociologist Theodor Adorno defined schadenfreude as “largely unanticipated delight in the suffering of another which is cognized as trivial and/or appropriate".

I think that when someone uses big words like that I understand it better. I don't know why.
